Audacity

I am new to this whole process. I am slightly familiar with using I-Movie and Garage Band sound effects. I have never used Audacity before. I did not have any trouble recording what I wanted, however I could not find any sample or template sounds on the program. There were three immediate options for sound: white noise, silence, or tone. So, I inserted the white noise effect at the beginning and end of my clip; just to show that I knew how to insert sounds into my clip. There was also another issue of exporting my file as an MP3. I had to use the Macs in one of the labs on campus and for some reason, it would not let be do this. I tried to open it as a lame file instead, if that makes sense. This did not work, so I am feeling rather frustrated!

WCU's haunted history; ghost stories from within - Features

WCU's haunted history; ghost stories from within - Features
So I have no clue what I am going to do for my final research project! I find the issue of flash causes very interesting and might explore a topic relating to that. As far as my blog goes, I am unsure of what I want to follow. I was originally just going to post things related to reality t.v; since I waste all of my time watching it! However, in the spirit of Halloween, I might explore issues dealing with the paranormal!

Spare the Paperwork

"They leverage the do-it-yourself nature of the online network and the ideal among connected consumers that they have the power not only to say what they want, but to create what they need to get that message across." (122) Flash causes are generally created out of "passion" for an issue or injustice. "Tweeting" and blogging allow for the creator to inject their opinions and comments in a matter of minutes, seconds. As the chapter explores, some flash causes are created and quickly forgotten about. But, others have the potential to gain rapid response and gain the attention of thousands. Thus, leading to such a mass movement that evokes change (such as the examples in the chapter). Once upon a time, one had to be a journalist, news reporter, or an author to examine a cause and raise alarm on a serious level. Now, anyone can gain the attention for any desired cause and have it spread both quickly and internationally. Flash causes allow us to call immediate attention to a cause and reach people in the most efficient ways. The problems of a small, rural village become the problems of our own sphere.

Friending for Good

I found this chapter very insightful. As a user of Facebook, I never knew of the "Causes" application. I mainly started Facebook, as most others, as a way to interact with my friends on and off campus. I just continued the trend and utilized Facebook in that limited function. However, now that I am aware of the "Causes" application I am inclined to use it and become apart of some causes I would have otherwise not have pursued. The great thing about it, as the chapter illustrates, is that one can become involved; the cause can be wide-spread with little to no cost. The ability to rapidly increase members and spread awareness in a short matter of time is outstanding.
